DID YOU KNOW?

Canada's largest manufacturer of clay brick, Meridian Brick produces 55% of the clay brick manufactured in Canada.

Meridian Brick employs approx. 164 people at three clay brick plants and four quarries in Burlington.

Local economic investment of more than $150 million.

Meridian Brick has been operating within Burlington for nearly 60 years.

Meridian’s Burlington plant produced its first brick in 1957.

Meridian Brick strives to be a good corporate citizen - for example, supplied brick to clad approx. 140 Habitat for Humanity homes in the GTA.

The Aldershot Quarry is fully compliant with the Aggregate Resources Act and the Greenbelt Plan.

The entire site will be continually rehabilitated and forested as the site is excavated.

When the plant opened in 2000, about 38% of the shale reserves were in the Quarry's east cell.

The Aldershot East Quarry site will ensure approximately 20 - 30 more years of valuable shale.

The northeast corner of the site will not be excavated until late in the site's lifespan, approximately 15 - 20 years from now.

The setback will ensure approx. 165m between fencelines and the quarry, an increase from 30m.

Quarrying has been conducted at the Aldershot location since 1904, licensed since 1972.

45% of Canadian clay brick production is undertaken by Meridian Brick in Burlington.

In 2010, a revised site plan was approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to meet provincial standards, and to account for the Tyandaga subdivision, which was registered in 1999.

Approx. 29,000 trees will be planted to rehabilitate the Aldershot East and Centre quarries.
